Founded in Melbourne, Lluis Shoes & Co. distributes beautifully crafted, high-quality men's shoes and clothing — style and comfort at an affordable price — right across Australia.

We worked with Lluis Shoes & Co. as an ongoing client over several years, with Lisa Saad, Principal Photographer at Gotham Studios Melbourne, photographing new styles as they were released.

The brief

Photograph shoes, loafers, belts and other products on an as-needed basis as new styles launched, and build and maintain the brand's online presence to sell them through.

The challenge — affordable price, premium perception, and a catalogue that never stands still

Lluis sits in a difficult spot: the product is genuinely well made, but it competes at an accessible price point. Photograph it carelessly and it looks cheap. Over-style it and the images promise something the price doesn't match.

Leather is also technically demanding. Grain, stitching and edge finishing are where craftsmanship is visible — and they're exactly what disappears under flat lighting.

And because new styles arrived continuously rather than as seasonal drops, the photography had to be consistent across years of separate shoots. A loafer photographed in year one and a belt photographed in year three still needed to sit together on the same page.

How we solved it

We shot on a clean white background so the craftsmanship and construction details carried the image with nothing competing for attention. Lighting was set to hold leather grain, stitch definition and edge work — the details a customer uses to judge quality.

Clean white backgrounds also do practical work: they cut out easily, they meet marketplace listing requirements, and they can be dropped onto any campaign background later without a re-shoot.

Beyond photography, we built and maintained the Shopify website as part of the broader brand work — integrating brochures and creating social media artwork. That meant the images weren't handed over and forgotten. We were the ones putting them on the site, sizing them for social, and laying them into brochures, so the visual standard held all the way through to the customer.

A cohesive brand identity across product photography, website, brochures and social — maintained over several years rather than set once — making it easy for customers to shop with confidence.
